#workinprogress

More zippy tops (I am obsessed) // jumper progress (I'm on the second sleeve so not long to go!) // lavender birdies (to be sold at a little Christmas market to raise money for my nan's daycare centre) // (what will eventually be) a crochet deer.

Gotta keep myself busy on these cold winter evenings :)

What you makin'?

avocados + pears

a bit of fun for a Friday...

Last week I submitted a cushion deisgn to the Ohh Deer pillow fight and this, is it!

I actually drew the design way back at the start of the year and put it to one side. But last week I finally got around to scanning it in and giving it some colour and thought it might rather suit a cushion...

You'll find mine and a whole bunch of awesome cushions in the competition shop. They're only available to purchase until the 20th November so now's the time if you're thinking about getting someone a pretty cool cushion for Christmas :)

Below are some of my favourites:

experiments in dressmaking - map top

Late last week I finished making See Kate Sew's Zippy Top using this excellent map fabric bought from the Goldhawk Road back in April. This pattern is ace: only four pieces, no darts, clear instructions - the hardest part was putting the paper pattern together!

Despite the name, I have a confession...with no decent zips in my sewing box (the pattern calls for an exposed zip so I wanted to use a pretty one) and thanks to my impatience (I was determined to finish it before the weekend) I decided to omit the zip! I think it's fine without it but the next ones (already picked out fabrics for two more - the pattern really is a dream) will have zips.

Anyhoo I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out - quick, easy, comfy and it brightens up even the most grey November day :)

October was...hard work

Yay to the beautiful autumn colours, yay to knitwear, yay to dusting off my DMs, yay to foggy days and chilly evenings, yay to soups, pies and crumbles.

But actually, take all those things away and this has been a bit of a crappy month.

Crappy because flat buying stuff has been stressssssssful (bank and building society not agreeing on the price for starters - give me strength!), crappy because work has been stressssssssful (and I'd thought I was coping), crappy because my world got turned upside down a couple of times this month (and not in a good way) which has made me dread meeting up with people because I'm worried they'll ask how things are going and I'll have to say: really not that great.

But actually, work and buying a flat isn't the sum of my parts.

It's thanks to Mitch, my friends and having some really great nights out (and nights in) that I've got through this shitty October. I reconnected with a couple of friends I'd not seen in over a year, had girly dinners, date nights with Mitch and saw in the end of the month dancing my ass off with the best 'day of the dead' make up I could muster :)

The line-up is looking pretty good for November: Spectre, curry night, renegade craft fair, Hunger Games, bonfire night, Joanna Newsom, Derren Brown, family christening - and that's just what I've got planned so far!

So, goodbye October you were hard work.

halloween weekend in numbers

2009 -  the last time I did anything to properly acknowedge Halloween. I don't know what happened this year but I decided to make some effort. (I think a shitty week and the fact that it fell on a Saturday had something to do with it.)

4 out of 5 - the rating I'd give Annihilation (which I finished reading on Saturday morning - I neeeeed the next one now!)

3 - the number of different arty-crafty projects I worked on this weekend: knitting my jumper (I'm on to the sleeve!), sewing a top (See Kate Sew's Zippy Top) and a design to submit for this fun caper

1963 - the year Valentina Tereshkova became not only the first woman to fly in space, but also the first civilian (she worked in a textile factory but was also an amatuer skydiver). Just one of the interesting facts about the Russian space program learned on a Friday night visit to the Cosmonauts exhibition at the Science Musuem.

3:45am - the time I got home on Sunday morning after a fabulous night of ghoulishness and dancing at the Hootenanny in Brixton.

100 metres - the distance visability has to drop to in order to be classified as fog and bloody hell was it foggy today in south west London. Not that it bothered me, I like that muffled quietness and the way the trees and buildings gradually emerge from the mist, it's one of my favourite weathers to walk in.

2 - the number of jam donuts eaten earlier (I honestly thought they'd help with my hangover).

How was your Halloween?
